The first thing I want to say before anything else; this book is not just for the over fifty crowds. I am far from the 50 mark (younger!) and the words of wisdom in this book are words to live by at any age . . . because the truth is that we are all going to be there one day!

This book is a wealth of information, and I drank it in like a marathon runner after 5K. From the health issues we all need to have concern about to the classic and ageless beauty advice, I found myself riveted by the information. Ms. Gruffman has done intensive research of the issues that are important to every woman.

I especially enjoyed the fashion part. She understands that not everyone has thousands to spend and makes sure to make choices that everyone can afford. Her advice is solid and will stand the test of time due to the classic nature of the items she tells us to buy.

Exercise is not my favorite subject, but I like how Ms. Gruffman approaches it. She gives a simple resolution and outlines it so it is easy and simple. The author’s view on diets and how the experts view diets will open your eyes to the simplicity of the truth of eating healthy. Woman cannot live on any single food alone!

I am a makeup and skin care guru . . . or maybe I should just say a hoarder and be honest. The information in this book on makeup and skin care is superb. She talks about what you need, why you need to use it, and gives a list of what she recommends. I thought I knew so much; I was wrong, and I learned so much.

I would tell anyone and everyone to get this book, especially those that have hit the 40 mark, not the 50 mark because this book will get you ready and have you looking great way before that age. My sister recommended this book to me, and I recommend it to you. Get it, read it, live it!

I’m very proud to be the organizing expert in a new book called The Best of Everything After 50: The Experts’ Guide to Style, Sex, Health, Money, and More written by Barbara Hannah Grufferman.

I received my advanced copy last week, and was so absorbed with it that I spend the entire weekend reading it. This is a WONDERFUL book!

Barbara has really done her research. She went out and talked to the best of the best—experts in everything from finance to beauty to health to yes, organization, as even that applies to living your very best life after the age of 50. You’ll find fashion and beauty tips from Diane Von Furstenberg, hair advice from Frederic Fekkai, and suggestions from yours truly on organizing and de-cluttering your life to make room for being your most authentic self.

All of the advice is exceptional—practical, specific and easy to put to use in your own life. The chapter on health alone is worth the price of this quick read. And I promise, the ideas in this book are so good, you’ll refer back to it again and again. If you want to dig deeper on any topic, Barbara offers excellent resources and references.

For anyone who has turned 50 and wants to know how to make the next 50 years the very best, The Best of Everything After 50 is THE how-to manual.

From author Amy Lignor, who reviewed The Best of Everything After 50 for www.bookpleasures.com:

I am surrounded by self-help – improve your life – books, and I am extremely pleased to say that there is FINALLY one that actually helps!

This fantastic guide offers a little bit of everything – the advice that all women want and need to know.  This wonderful author went directly to the source, so to speak, when she turned fifty, to get all the best facts, figures and advice from experts in the fields of hair care, make-up tips, skin care regimens, exercise, finance, and more.  Literally, there isn’t one page in this book that you can afford to miss.

For most people, fifty “sneaks” up on them.  And this was definitely so for the writer of this guide.  She immediately had the thought that all of us should have, “Knowledge is Power!”  And, being intelligent, she went off to every bookstore, magazine, and internet website (and, boy, are there millions of them).  But she soon found out, as we all have, that the market is filled with so much hype, that we can’t actually find the answers – the real answers – that we’re looking for.

Barbara made it her mission in life to get the real answers from real experts, and amazingly shared it with us.  The very first chapter covers your health; everything from weight and exercise, to how many times you should see a doctor and, for what illnesses.  Included is fantastic and realistic information that covers subjects such as strength training to dealing with menopause.  (The treatment of spider veins, by the way, was one of mine and my mother’s favorites.)

In another chapter called Face the Facts, answers to many questions about makeup.  Included in this chapter is a step by step guide that offers the perfect way to put on your cosmetics beginning with the primer and ending with the lip color.  The very next chapter is where we all finally get the “okay” to throw out the hair dryer and try to straighten out our follicle problems.  There’s even a personal shopper’s chapter with a guide to choosing and purchasing just the right outfits.

At the end of every chapter, the author has graciously added website information and books that offer the consumer helpful information that we women need to face the “better” half of our lifetimes.

I had the good fortune of “catching” this author on the Today Show with Ann Curry and she was as fascinating and empowered as her book would lead you to believe.  If you are hoping, praying, and keeping your fingers crossed that you can remain stylish, healthy and happy over fifty – stop praying and start doing!  This is the perfect guide for you!  Let’s all love the skin we’re in!
